Better photos are mostly about attention. Before you tap the shutter, look at the frame edges and remove distractions by shifting your angle.

Light beats specs

Find good light. Soft window light and golden-hour sunlight are flattering because shadows are gentle. Harsh midday sun creates strong contrast and squinting.

Use the grid

Use the grid lines in your camera app. Place the subject slightly off-center for a more natural look, and keep horizons level.

Control exposure

Tap to focus and expose, then adjust exposure slightly down to protect highlights. Bright skies are easy to blow out.

Move closer

Finally, get closer. Digital zoom often reduces quality, so physically move toward the subject when possible.

These basics beat new gear almost every time.

Quick practice: take the same photo from three angles and three distances. You’ll learn composition fast.
